Post Op Orders for a da Vinci  hysterectomy

1)   Admit to the Post Anesthesia Recovery unit (PARU)

2)   IV lactated ringer's solution at 125 cc/hour

3)   NPO untill fully alert and awake; then Diet as tolerated

4)   Bed rest untill fully alert then up help ; then advance to up ad lib

5)   Foley catheter to drainage; discontinue the catheter at 16:00 hours

6)   Discontinue the IV at 16:00 hours if stable; change to a Heaprin lock at the IV site

7)   Demerol 50 mg IM or PO q 4 - 6 hours PRN pain

8)   Ultram 50 mg PO q 6 hours PRN pain

9)   Toradol 30 mg IM q 8 hours IM PRN pain

10) Ambien 5 mg PO PRN insomnia

11) Hemoglobin and Hematocrit 4 hours after surgery and CBC at 06:30 hours post op day one

Note: due to the minimal invasive surgery and small diameter surgiports,  analgesic requirements are minimal - usual requirement is non narcotic such as Ultram 50 mg(tramadol) in combination with a NSAID such as Cataflam 50 mg!
